Life lessons I learnt from my cat

Gucci and I have always had a love-hate relationship. I love her, she hates me. Although she usually is busy spending most of her time sleeping, I’ve had the opportunity to learn a few lessons from her.

Reading the room! — Have you realized that cats usually enter the rooms in our house slowly? Why is that? They have literally been here a million times! ….

Unlike dogs, cats possess a fight-flight instinct which forces them to cautiously read the environment of the room before entering. We (humans) tend to make ourselves heard before “reading the room”, often neglecting factors like body language cues, gestures, facial expressions, and the overall energy of the room.

Entry-Exit Strategy — Prior to exploring new and mysterious areas, cats usually enter with a blueprint of how they would exit. Applying this concept to our human lives, if you have recently been employed at an organization, keep building knowledge and network in order to reach your final goal.

Keep asking for more — No matter how much I feed Gucci, she always screechingly meows at me an hour later behaving like she has never been fed in her life. This sassy and dramatic reaction made me realize that there is nothing wrong in being demanding. Afterall, you want the best or yourself, don’t you? Whether its your current pay scale or in a relationship, make sure to keep the bar high!

Mandatory Zoomies — What exactly is a zoomie? Zoomies usually occur after a long nap and are typically an energy burst which cats go through during the day (mostly nights). We as humans definitely need one in our day. By setting aside 10–30 mins every day WITHOUT DISTURBANCE (incl. all electronic devices), we can use this time to strategically think about life irrespective of how big/small these decisions are. This is a good time to plan personal finances!
